Lower Cape Fear LifeCare is thrilled to offer an internship opportunity within our Human Resources department for the upcoming summer. This paid internship is designed to provide hands-on experience and valuable insights into the Human Resources field, while offering an enriching learning environment.

As an award-winning nonprofit hospice and palliative care provider nestled in the scenic beauty of Wilmington, NC, we've been dedicated to serving individuals and families for over 40 years across southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.

Position: Human Resources Intern

Location: Wilmington, NC.
Duration: Fall 2024
Hours: 20-30 hours per week, maximum of 300 hours
Compensation: Paid

Internship Overview:
As a Human Resources intern, you will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and gain practical experience in Human Resources operations. Throughout the internship, you will work closely with our team of professionals, receiving mentorship and guidance to support your professional growth and development.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Researching recruitment and retention strategies:
    1. Conduct in-depth research on new and innovative recruitment strategies and their implementation methods.
    2. Identify best practices and emerging trends that align with Lower Cape Fear LifeCare's mission and objectives.
  2. Developing workflows and SOPs:
    1. Gather data on current processes and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    2. Conduct SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis to identify areas for improvement.
    3. Provide recommendations based on analysis findings to enhance departmental effectiveness.
  3. Orientation and onboarding:
    1. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a comprehensive onboarding program focused on a positive candidate experience.
    2. Compile relevant resources, guidelines, and best practices to support program development and implementation.
  4. HR and Employee Lifecycle:
    1. Develop key considerations related to various HR responsibilities and roles.
    2. Support the feasibility assessment of adopting certain programs, identifying potential barriers and challenges to successful implementation.
    • Create a process for stay interviews to gather valuable feedback from employees and improve retention strategies.

Qualifications:

Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in relevant field of study.

Experience: None

Essential Technical / Motor Skills: 60% of time involved with working on the computer.

Interpersonal Skills: Professional demeanor and appearance, excellent grammar, oral and written communication skill. Ability to interact with all levels of employees and applicants. Must possess a high degree of integrity and maintenance of confidentiality.
