As we work together to put the needs of the patient first, we are also dedicated to our employees, investing in competitive compensation and  comprehensive benefit plans – to take care of you and your family, now and in the future. And with continuing education and advancement opportunities at every turn, you can build a long, successful career with Mayo Clinic. You’ll thrive in an environment that supports innovation, is committed to ending racism and supporting diversity, equity and inclusion, and provides the resources you need to succeed.

Responsibilities

A Healthcare Engineering Tech 1 maintains medical and clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan and current asset management software. Technicians will consistently demonstrate skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment and systems. Technicians must ultimately provide both primary service expertise and back up responsibility on multiple types of biomedical equipment. For this reason, most technicians in this specialty are expected to satisfy the competency requirements of a higher level Healthcare Engineering Technician and advance within approximately 5 years.

Equipment must be maintained to provide reliable, accurate and high quality results for patient care and safety. Most service calls are communicated directly from the equipment user to the technician and often requires a response time of 15 minutes or less. The technicians must prioritize their own work appropriately and be available to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation if needed. Individuals in this position must be customer focused with good communications and interpersonal skills. Specialized knowledge obtained through on-the-job-training and manufacturer's training is required to maintain nearly all of the equipment assigned to this specialty. The individual must be committed to continuously improving their knowledge and abilities in order to become and remain proficient. Individual must be highly organized, efficient, and multifunctional with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

Qualifications

Requires a minimum of an associate's degree, preferably from an accredited electronics school, or electronics training in military. Knowledge of, or training with, medical equipment, operating systems and basic networking is desirable. Familiarization with medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology is helpful.

Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Also, Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
