What You Will Do

The Materials Development team in the Engineered Materials group (MST-7) is seeking outstanding candidates to perform theoretical modelling of the degradation of polymeric and composite materials. The team undertakes a broad range of high-risk, high-reward projects based on "bottom-up" materials approaches. The successful candidate will have experience using the modeling software "Yet Another Reaction Program" (YARP). Regular dissemination of results in the form of internal reports, peer-reviewed research papers, patent applications and conference presentations will be essential for success.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Polymer degradation modeling experience
  • Familiarity with "wet" lab techniques.
  • Ability to design comprehensive polymer degradation studies using YARP
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team possessing diverse technical expertise at a variety of skill levels.
  • A strong skillset encompassing organization, planning, and interpersonal communication.
  • Experience in conducting technical materials-related R&D in a safe and secure manner.

Education/Experience: Currently enrolled in an accredited graduate degree program in any Physical Science, Engineering, Statistics, or Business-related discipline. Examples include chemistry, geology, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or physics.

Must be enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours (or full-time equivalent). Entering graduate students must provide documentation indicating matriculation into a graduate degree program.

Must currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).

Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of polymers associated with synthetic techniques.
  • Eligible for US DOE Q Clearance which typically requires US citizenship

Work Location: The work location for this position is remote. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
