Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Phillipsburg, New Jersey is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Responsible for the daily management and maintenance of the golf course and club grounds, including turf health, irrigation, landscaping, staffing, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage all aspects of golf course maintenance operations.
• Develop and implement turfgrass, plant health, and irrigation programs.
• Recruit, train, and supervise the maintenance team, including Assistant Superintendent, mechanics, and seasonal staff.
• Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget, covering labor, equipment, materials, and capital improvements.
• Coordinate with Golf Operations to ensure seamless execution of tournaments, events, and day-to-day play.
• Oversee pesticide and fertilizer applications in full compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Maintain accurate records for agronomic practices, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols.
• Plan and execute course improvement projects, including renovations, drainage work, aeration, and landscaping.
• Maintain and improve course conditions, with a focus on sand-based bentgrass tees, greens, and fairways.
• Monitor and manage irrigation systems with an emphasis on water conservation and sustainability.
• Oversee the care and maintenance of all landscaping, including ornamental plants, trees, shrubs, and high-visibility areas to ensure consistent, visually appealing grounds.
• Provide training and oversight to ensure proper use and maintenance of all mechanical and power equipment.
• Enforce OSHA standards and safe work practices through regular safety training and on-site supervision.
• Coordinate snow removal and oversee winter maintenance operations as needed.
• Foster a safe, respectful, and productive work environment aligned with club policies and regulatory guidelines.
Requirements:
Preferred:
5+ years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or First Assistant Superintendent at a reputable facility.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
Proven experience managing sand-based bentgrass greens in the Northeast.
Current NJ Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain.
Valid driver’s license.
GCSAA certification preferred.
Strong proficiency with budgeting, reporting, and golf course management software, including Microsoft Office and irrigation control systems.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Compensation:
$95,000 – $110,000 per year.
