Job Description

The Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Equipment will inspect, analyze, diagnose and perform necessary repairs on all equipment in order to keep operations running in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Conduct routine maintenance, including tire maintenance, oil changes, filter replacements, and tune-ups to ensure optimal performance and longevity of equipment.
  2. Perform thorough inspections and diagnostics on heavy-duty diesel engines and related systems to identify issues.
  3. Disassemble and reassemble heavy truck and trailer components; including but not limited to; refrigerated units, diesel engines, transmissions, axles and any other components or systems.
  4. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, and ignition systems.
  5. Service and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves and cylinders.
  6. Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts inventory to ensure compliance and streamline operations.
  7. Adhere to safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  8. Work closely with Fleet Manager and other team members to share knowledge and improve overall efficiency.
  9. Stay up to date with industry trends and advancements in diesel technology.
  10. May be required to test drive equipment.
  11. Perform roadside repairs in inclement weather conditions.
  12. Additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 21 years of age
  • Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in diesel mechanics preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic, with a strong knowledge of diesel engine components, systems, diagnostics and repairs.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to push up to 75 lbs
  • Must be able to pull 100+ lbs
  • Frequently required to sit, forward reach, pinch, or grip
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, climb, push, pull and overhead reach
  • Frequently required to work in outside weather conditions and exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
